CFIF NURTURE YOUNG TALENTS THROUGH INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
The Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation, Inc. is pumping new blood into the industry through the Student Internship Program (SIP). Now on its fourth year, the SIP trains and exposes young designers to the requirements of the furniture and furnishing industry, engaging them in actual work experiences.
The program has three components. One is the industry internship which allows participating CEBUNEXT and CFIF member companies to host design interns who are on their junior or senior years. Through this, the CFIF is paving the way for young talents to be mentored and taught the art of the discipline before they formally become part of the industry. This also becomes part of the participating companies’ corporate social responsibility.
Under the guidance of their host companies and their professors, the students develop designs which, when approved, are made into prototypes. During the last three years of the SIP, CFIF highlighted the results of the program by putting up special setting booths at the CEBUNEXT exhibit to showcase the students’ designs. What’s more, a Best Student Design category was added to the CEBUNEXT Mugna Awards, giving special citation to the most creative and ingenious intern.
The CFIF flagship project also strengthens linkages between the industry and various academic institutions around the country. This year, four schools have enlisted to participate in the SIP: the University of the Philippines Visayas College, the University of San Carlos, University of the Philippines – Diliman and De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde.
